POSITION SUMMARY:

This Materials Manager position is both a strategic material and purchasing management role. This position will be responsible for analyzing, planning, and managing the flow of raw and finished materials to ensure appropriate inventory levels are available to satisfy internal and external customers, and meet quality, delivery, cost, and cash objectives. This position will work in close contact with the Buyers and Logistics Materials Handlers and is responsible for their performance and alignment to business objectives.

This is a highly visible position with responsibility to provide results driven leadership to the purchasing and materials departments. Key areas of accountability include hands-on participation in department activities, planning, budgeting, purchasing, resource management, scheduling, training, supplier network, best practices, quality, and continued improvement of responsible areas.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

Responsible for partnering with Production to obtain on-time deliveries to customers. Analyzes needs and buys materials using Kanban, sales histories, and MRP. Leads continuous improvement efforts in procurement and supply base management. Develops materials team through performance management and provides continual professional, candid feedback to team members. Drives year-over-year materials productivity per Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and inventory reductions. Works to reduce and eliminate E&O. Works with materials team to secure contracts and recommend appropriate settlements for delays, defective materials, or other errors. Works to ensure Import / Export Trade Compliance. Manages work order flow and schedules work order start dates. Manages direct reports to ensure accurate invoicing/payments made in a timely manner. Oversees cycle counts to maintain accuracy of inventory. Issues corrective actions for BOM errors to appropriate personnel. Works with materials team and provides feedback as business needs grow. Proactively obtain industry trend data and provide timely feedback to Senior Leadership. Provide input and data to support Marathon's ongoing budgeting and strategic planning process. Identify and develop strategic suppliers / partnerships to support Marathon's business goals. Establish departmental goals and objectives that provide world-class materials performance to the organization. Establish and track meaningful departmental reports / measurements. Analyze reports, measurements, and external benchmarks to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Proactively lead the materials team to continuously improve processes and procedures. Manage all departmental functions such that goals and objectives are consistently achieved. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and ethics codes and ensure that they are communicated and implemented within the department. Deliver continuous improvement in supplier delivery, quality, and cost. Ensure timely receipt of materials to support the production schedule. Manage purchase contracts to protect Marathon's interests. Schedule material demands and work order completion dates in system to support production schedule. Proactively manage material and work order exceptions and provide feedback to Manufacturing and Project Management on critical information. Manage and oversee ABCD cycle counting process per Dover guidelines. Interface with production managers to establish workflow including release dates, releasing order, dates, and cash flow management. Minimize overall inventory value. Ensure accuracy of data in system including location, quantity on hand, value, etc. Create procedures and reporting for the effective management of inventory. Ensure all materials are received promptly and accurately. Fully embrace Marathon's quality system to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement. Assist the sales department with proposal efforts. Perform other duties as assigned to insure the efficiency of the company. Minimal travel is required for this position up to 10-15%.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree required, preferably with emphasis in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Materials Management / Purchasing or equivalent experience. 15+ years of related experience in buying, production and materials planning, inventory control and related areas. Prior management experience required in a fast-paced environment. Strong lean background required. Working knowledge of MRP. Thorough knowledge of JDE or other similar ERP systems experience preferred. CPM and/or APICS certification preferred. Microsoft Office experience required – including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated organizational skills to include good communication, time management, and problem solving. Ability to objectively coach employees through complex and difficult issues.
