Optum's Government Cloud engineering team, develops services, controls, and reusable patterns, that enable Optum product teams to deliver value safely, quickly, and sustainably in the public cloud. In this position, you will work with a growing team to create business value while collaborating with product owners in an iterative agile process. Your work will be leveraged by thousands of Optum and UnitedHealth Group engineers in their journey towards public cloud maturity.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Building and operating secure cloud platform capabilities that meet business requirements
  • Innovate to improve efficiency, reduce technical drag, and create usable app patterns
  • Practice SRE principles, to eliminate repetitive tasks, monitor performance, simplify work practices, define outcomes and metrics, and assure operational quality
  • Manage security controls at the platform layer to enable the organization to operate securely, efficiently, and within policy
  • Assist multiple partner teams to understand and apply information security guidance and standards with the goal of mitigating information security risks

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience as software development engineer or equivalent hands-on experience producing code for production systems
  • 2+ years of experience in Public Cloud such as AWS, Azure, GCP beyond basic IaaS functionality
  • 2+ of years of experience with the software build cycle
  • 1+ years of experience in automation of CI/CD using GitHub actions or similar and source control system such as Git
  • 1+ years of engineering experience in building infrastructure using code and repeatable designs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with serverless services, network setup, policy management, and vulnerability remediation in the cloud
  • Experience working on highly regulated environments i.e.: NIST, HiTrust, FedRAMP, etc.
  • Evidence based approach to making decisions and solving problems
  • Algorithms, data structures, OO design, and other CSCI concepts experience
  • API design and lifecycle management (REST, etc.) experience
  • Data storage, caching, and optimization (NoSQL databases, Redis, PostgreSQL, etc.) experience
  • Inter-service messaging and streams discovery (SQS, Pub/Sub Kafka, etc.) experience
  • Experience with instrumentation, logging, and tracing (Prometheus, CloudWatch, Stack Driver, Azure Monitor etc.)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
