Human Factors Center Description

Located in Washington, D.C., the MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare was founded in 2010 within the MedStar Institute for Innovation (MI2) and moved to its new organizational home in the MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI) in 2020. Working in close collaboration with MI2, MHRI, and the MedStar Institute for Quality and Safety, the Center is the nation's largest human factors program embedded within a healthcare delivery system. Through applied research, usability, safety advisement, and education, the MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors is dedicated to the scientific study of how humans think, work, and interact within the healthcare environment. The Center's research is translated into clinical practice to improve workflow, efficiency, safety, and technology.

Research Associate

The Research Associate conducts study activities associated with the responsible conduct of research. Prepares grants, recruits participants, collects quantitative and/or qualitative data, analyzes data and/or image, manages data base, disseminates data, and ensures up-to-date regulatory approvals.

This is a hybrid position, but candidates must be local to Washington, DC area due to expectation that this position will be onsite a few days per week.

EducationAssociate's degree in a health or science related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience required Bachelor's degree in a health, science or other related field preferred Experience2 years of previous work experience in a research setting or related field required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong verbal and written communication skills.Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to meet strict deadlines.Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Performs qualitative and/or quantitative research data collection, as requested. May coordinate and complete research projects for the National Human Factors in Healthcare team in accordance with FDA and GCP guidelines.Obtains research related information as needed from various sources may include records supporting human factors projects.Conducts literature reviews and may administers study protocols, as needed.Conducts data management and analysis as needed. May include monitoring patients study progress to fulfill protocol and sponsor requirements.Communicates effectively with research investigators, staff and collaborators to ensure effective study implementation and progress.Assists with management and maintenance required regulatory files.Organizes and maintains required regulatory files as needed.Recruits, selects, schedules, and consents research participants as required.Prepares timely reports as required.Prepares and submits research protocols for regulatory approval as needed.Consistently demonstrates support for compliance in the performance of job duties and responsibilities by a) developing and maintaining knowledge of, and performing job functions in compliance with, rules, regulations, policies, and statutes that affect his/her job; b) maintaining knowledge of and performing job functions in compliance with MedStar Health and MedStar Health Research Institute policies and procedures; and c) reporting compliance concerns in an appropriate and timely manner.Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.#LI-Hybrid
