Main Purpose of Job

This full-time contractual position will provide interpretive services both telephonically and in person that facilitates communication between Spanish speaking clients and the Community Health Services Division staff as well as other FCHD divisions; provide translation of documents for English into Spanish to ensure clients have access to essential documents in the provision of their care and services delivered; provide interpretive services for Spanish speaking clients off site and in the community for client services and during events such as health fairs and educational presentations presented by the Community Health Services staff; complete mandatory trainings through the State HUB training system, FCHD and CHS required trainings.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r
Experience: Six months of experience providing formal interpretation and translation services between English and a second language.� Formal interpretation services may include documented work as a volunteer interpreter for a nonprofit, human service or faith-based organization.\r

1.�Candidates may substitute additional experience interpreting and translating between English and a second language on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r
2.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in�Linguist or Language Capability�classifications or�Linguist or Language Capability specialty codes in the Linguistic field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r
