Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor

Major Duties:


Incumbent is responsible for oversight of a variety of roadway, bridge, and trail maintenance, repair, and construction functions, including supervising employees performing day-to-day roads, trails, and bridge maintenance tasks, as well as fleet repairs and auto shop operations.

The incumbent is designated as emergency essential and will be required to work call back and emergency overtime. Overtime, weekend, and/or night work will be required. Incumbent may be required to work a schedule other than Monday through Friday.

Responsible for oversight of all aspects of snow and ice removal operations on heavily utilized park roads.

Area of responsibility will include at times grounds maintenance and custodial operations, such as: grounds sanitation, trash removal, leaf removal, debris clean up, turf maintenance, power washing, removal of downed limbs and rock fall debris removal.

Incumbent will be responsible for emergency response operations on park roadways, including response required on weekends, evening, and holidays.

The incumbent directly supervises a variety of workers such as, equipment operators, mechanics, maintenance workers, motor vehicle operators, and laborers who accomplish a wide variety of maintenance assignments.


Physical Demands:
Physical duties include frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, crawling, climbing, stretching, pushing, pulling, and kneeling.

Work requires physical effort such as frequently lifting and moving heavy objects over 50 lbs, hooking up equipment and attachments to vehicles, loading and unloading vehicles, etc.

During the course of normal duties, incumbent may occasionally be required to climb ladders and scaffolding, work below ground level, remain in strained or cramped positions for extended periods of time, and work on slopes or stairs.


Working Conditions:


Incumbent will work outside and is subject to discomfort from long periods on the hot sun, high humidity, winter weather, inclement weather, and cold temperatures.

Incumbent will be required to wear prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suitable for the job, equipment, and working conditions.

Because of the duties performed, there is the chance of minor injuries such as bruises, cuts, scrapes, and the occasional possibility of serious injury from working with machinery, in areas of high traffic along roadways, or other conditions.

Incumbent will spend at least 35% of his/her time performing sedentary administrative work.

This includes sitting to complete work on computers, reading digital and paper documents, typing documents and correspondence, answering phone calls, and attending meetings.

was established in 1906 to preserve and interpret the archaeological heritage of the Ancestral Pueblo people.

For over 700 years, the Ancestral Pueblo people built thriving communities on the mesas and in the cliffs of Mesa Verde.

Today, the park protects the rich cultural heritage of 26 Pueblos and Tribes and offers visitors a spectacular window into the past while also highlighting contemporary connections.

This World Heritage Site and International Dark Sky Park is home to over a thousand species, including several that live nowhere else on earth.

Nearby Yucca House National Monument is managed under Mesa Verde. It is an undeveloped NPS unit and protects a large unexcavated valley pueblo.

On average Mesa Verde hosts 500,000+ visitors per year.

Area residents and visitors enjoy world-class outdoor recreational opportunities including skiing, mountain biking, hiking, rafting, camping, hunting, and fishing in the region.

Nearby public lands include the San Juan National Forest, Canyon of the Ancients National Monument and other areas in the Tres Rios District of the Bureau of Land Management.

The local towns of Cortez, Mancos, Dolores, and Durango provide a range of housing, dining, and shopping opportunities, and both Durango and Cortez have regional airports.
