Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-Time appointment for the Accountant I (Specialist) classification in the Fiscal Services, Cashier Unit.
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Accounting Officer Supervisor, the incumbent performs the more difficult semi-professional accounting work in establishing and maintaining accounts and records. The primary responsibilities for this position include receipting all funds received for the Accounting and Trust Departments. This includes but is not limited to vendor refunds, salary payments, travel reimbursements, identification badge, chit and key fees, and funds received for deposit into patient's accounts. In addition, this position acts as one of the petty cash custodians, reconciles weekly the petty cash funds, reconciles daily all funds received, opens and distributes mail, enters Accounts Receivable transactions into the FI$Cal system, assists with processing monthly payroll, maintains listing of aged, released payroll warrants and distributes monthly to Human Resources, and provides customer service. Additionally, will assist and back up the Accounts Payable Unit as required.
The successful candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, exercise tact and good judgment when interacting with the public and departmental employees and always maintain confidentiality. The incumbent must be able to efficiently multitask, meet stringent deadlines, adjust to changing priorities in a cooperative manner, be able to work in demanding/adversarial situations, and always maintain professionalism. Additionally, this position should be able to work independently in identifying the need for and implementing changes in systems and service, have efficiency with Word, Excel and Outlook, strong organizational skills, analytical ability, flexibility, dependability, and be highly motivated.
Experience: One year of bookkeeping or accounting experience performing duties comparable in level to those of an Accounting Technician in the California state service and Education: Completion of at least 12 semester hours of a professional accounting curriculum.
