The Marine Product Development Engineer position includes product design, prototyping, technical evaluation, and engineering documentation. It requires working with target customers, sales, other designers, purchasing, shop personnel, and quality control.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage project timelines, critical path items, and milestones.
  • Interface with Sales and Customers to determine product requirements.
  • Design and provide cost estimates for mechanical and electromechanical mechanisms with tight tolerances. Markets include recreational, commercial and government, marine, security products, locks and hardware, and industrial fabrication.
  • Provide technical support to the factory, throughout the product life cycle, to ensure design robustness.
  • Product design and development, some test fixture design as desired or needed.
  • CAD model and drawing creation.
  • Perform development and project cost analysis.
  • Coordinate pilot builds for new product launches.
  • Lead new product design projects up through hand-off to manufacturing.
  • Develop specialized design validation testing as needed.
  • Design data acquisition methods to determine product testing requirements.
  • Good understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly tolerances.
  • Able to work on projects independently with minimal supervision.
  • Develop SOPs, work instructions, process controls and production documentation with process and quality to ensure successful transfer to production.
  • Meet turn-around expectations and/or notify the responsible parties if delivery dates need to be moved.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a 4-year technical degree with design experience
  • A minimum of 2 years in manufacturing, project management, production, technical sales, or quality
  • Experience with CAD system such SolidWorks
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Methodical problem-solving abilities and 3D thinking
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in the Marine industry is required, specifically with recreational and performance-based products and systems.
