The position is in the Office of Emergency Programmes (EMOPS) under the Emergency Specialist (Reporting/Global Appeals Manager).

The Office of Emergency Programmes has several objectives:
(a) strengthen preparedness and timely, effective and efficient response to humanitarian crises in varied contexts;
(b) strengthen sustained access to principled humanitarian assistance and protection for children affected by humanitarian crises, and
(c) strengthen strategic alliances, partnerships and advocacy for child-focused humanitarian action.


The position will support the EMOPS Director's Office, specifically in data management, analysis and communications, and in delivering on its corporate reporting accountabilities.

Under supervision and in regular consultation with the supervisor, support reports and data visualization, including web and graphic design.

Support the delivery of EMOPS annual reports and regular data aggregation of country humanitarian responses throughout the year for better accountability and fundraising through UNICEF's humanitarian appeal (Humanitarian Action for Children) and for the National Committee, donors, partners and other external audiences.


How can you make a difference?
The position is proposed to address existing gaps in EMOPS's deliverables, specifically to:
  • (a) assist in coordination and data collation and analysis in support of UNICEF's Global Humanitarian Action for Children appeal
(b) regularly generate global aggregation of data to inform UNICEF's ongoing performance in humanitarian action, which is currently only completed once annually for the launch of the Humanitarian Action for Children (HAC) appeal;

(c) support allocation, tracking and utilization analysis of global humanitarian thematic funding for corporate reporting and resource mobilization

(d) Contribute to analysis for corporate reporting, including the Executive Director's Annual Report and the Global Annual Results Report (Humanitarian Action); and

(e) Support the development of additional products for use by senior EMOPS and UNICEF management (including the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Directors) during Executive Boards and other high-level events and for resource mobilization and advocacy with donors.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  • Assist in coordination and global aggregation of data (programme results and targets; financial) across humanitarian appeal countries throughout the year);
  • Produce and maintain a dashboard for HAC programme data in collaboration with relevant stakeholders;
  • Provide data analysis and design capacity for the Humanitarian Action Study, Humanitarian Action for Children appeal and other EMOPS data visualization and analysis needs, including analysis of eSitRep data.
  • Produce and maintain documents for regular tracking and reporting on Global Humanitarian Thematic Funding in collaboration with relevant stakeholders;
  • Produce and update content on the Humanitarian Action for Children and emergencies websites (including migration to Drupal);
  • Maintenance of the internal HAC and eSitRep platform in partnership with ICTD;
  • Support divisional annual reporting, including qualitative and quantitative analysis as part of EMOPS reporting in UNICEF's Results Assessment Module (RAM);
  • Editing/drafting/proofreading of documents and presentations for senior management, Executive Board and other high-level events;
The incumbent is critical for generating clear and concise information on UNICEF's humanitarian action at the global level.

This will strengthen its efficiency and effectiveness by better measuring the scope of UNICEF's response and what results have been achieved—and what gaps remain—with funding to date.

The following minimum requirements:

Education: A first university degree (equivalent to a Bachelor's) from an accredited institution is required in social sciences, public administration, law, public health, nutrition, international relations, business administration, communication or other related disciplines.

Work Experience: At least two years of relevant work experience at the national and/or international levels in programme/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation or administration.

Skills:
Training/experience in emergency response management is highly desirable.

Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
