Essential Responsibilities
Begin developing subject matter expertise on all matters related to coal and the performance of the plantBe a point of contact for both plant and mine personnel for technical assistance regarding coal and the performance of the plantFuels and boiler performance engineeringMake recommendations to both plant and mine personnel based on:Ash coloration and qualityCoal handling equipment adjustments and performanceCoal quality/chemical makeup dataStrategic planning for coal mining and timing of deliveriesStrategic planning for long-term boiler cleanliness and performanceApplicable machine repair and overhaul schedulingMonitor and react on a real-time basis to changes in coal quality/chemical makeupLiaise, provide a channel of open communication, and maintain a close working relationship with mine personnelParticipate in studies with respect to boiler performance and coal quality/chemical makeupAssist with evaluating and test equipmentReview systems to improve efficiency, reliability, availability, load factor, durations between wash outages, fuel oil consumption, and combustion performance and efficiencyIdentify areas of improvement that reduce total cost of ownershipHold plant and mine personnel accountable for actions taken that hinder plant performanceTrack/monitor/record applicable material/machinery histories to accomplish duties describedConsider and make recommendations for alternative sources or types of fuel, including studies on logistics and financial impacts
Project management
Project budgetingAcquisition of labor and material resources through the procurement processContractor managementConstruction planning, coordination, inspection, and quality controlStartup and testingPrepare and conduct project training for operations and maintenanceComplete the project recordsComplete project closeoutEnsure coordination of efforts between different departments, organizations and vendors
Operations and Maintenance Support
Provide day-to-day guidance to operations and maintenance personnelProvide technical expertise in areas causing problems to operationsProvide assistance under emergency conditions for repair of vital equipmentMaintain all qualifications necessary to traverse the haul road between the mine and plant

Goals and Objectives

An employee filling this role is expected to meet changing and unique goals and objectives, as established by their supervisor, related to the broader area in which the employee is assigned.

Job Qualification Standards

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and EIT certification is preferred. Related working experience is highly preferred, but not necessary. Must maintain a valid driver's license.

Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent will be required to problem solve, read, write and analyze data, work under schedules and deadline pressure, present information to others, work independently and use discretion and judgment for confidential or sensitive projects/issues.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to an office environment indoors, and will travel outdoors to multiple locations dependent on work.
