Duties

Brief Description of Duties
  • Develops, maintains, and implements training programs for two hundred (200) volunteer neutrals, and division staff who serve the Civil and Family branches of the division
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates mediators and assists in recruiting potential neutrals from the Bar and other professional organizations
  • Speaks before law firms, bar meetings, and other professional groups to explain the programs and encourage applications
  • Designs and delivers in-service training events, in coordination with division branch chiefs, for neutrals serving the division
  • Ensures that all neutrals perform at the highest levels of which they are capable, satisfy their commitment to the program, remain enthusiastic and constantly increase their knowledge and skills
  • Plans, develops, administers, and evaluates special projects designed to accomplish division goals and objectives
  • Responds to requests from judges and neutrals for information about division processes, and on appropriate strategies and responses to individual case situations
  • Supervises all Multi-Door Division staff, interns, and neutrals who may be involved in training programs

    Requirements

    Conditions of Employment
    • A background and/or security investigation is required.
    • A probationary period of one (1) year must be successfully completed.

      Qualifications

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree with an emphasis in conflict or dispute resolution, social sciences, or a closely related field plus five (5) years of experience in mediation, legal services, social service, or volunteer-supported alternative dispute resolution programs, including the development and delivery of advanced mediation and negotiation techniques and experience in alternative dispute resolution.

      An advanced degree in law or conflict resolution is preferred.

      Documentation of Education (copy of college transcript or degree) must be submitted with your application, or your application will not be considered.

      Your resume must reflect the relevant experience and that you meet the minimum qualifications or your application will not be considered.

      The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts' values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.
