Role description:

The Payroll and Tax Manager oversees the day-to-day management of payroll operations, including ownership of core payroll processes and procedures, management of the payroll and payroll tax operations processing team, delivering and monitoring service level commitments, and appropriate delegation of day-to-day work requests. This position manages the payroll and/or payroll tax team in areas such as developing training; mentoring; and providing informal and formal verbal and written feedback..

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the daily operations for the US Payroll & Payroll Tax operations team, through work allocation, training, and problem resolution; leads compliance with federal, state, and local policies and procedures
  • Train and develop the Payroll and Payroll Tax operations team, coordinating workload to assure priorities are established and executed
  • Lead and maintain strong controls in the preparation, review, and distribution of the company's payroll
  • Responsible for preparing, and maintaining procedures and documentation for Payroll and Tax Operations department
  • Accountable for the direction of the end-to-end payroll process, including preparation, processing, post- Payroll, in coordination with the outsourced payroll solution provider
  • Ensure SOX compliance and control requirements are met, supporting internal and external auditor requests
  • Work with third-party vendors who provide information for payroll processing
  • Coordinate with third parties for payroll system and tax updates to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Ownership of daily payroll issues tracker / ticketing system, including support for HR leaders in resolving payroll issues, irregular payments, and employee or vendor inquiries
  • Responsible for ensuring payroll performance metrics and SLAs are achieved
  • Provide excellent customer service and support to employees, HR team, business functions, and external customers, providing timely and complete responses and follow-up to questions and information requests

Minimum skills / qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of hands-on experience in US multi-state payroll (union and nonunion) and tax processing
  • Five (5) years of direct payroll and tax management experience (including reporting, auditing, testing, and processing)
  • Proven experience in multi-state/local tax, G/L, and SOX audit/compliance
  • Experience with time and attendance and HRIS configuration
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred skills / qualifications:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, human resources, information systems, or a related field
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, SAP SuccessFactors, and Kronos
  • Zendesk or other ticket management experience
