Job Overview
The Department of Anthropology at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a tenure-track anthropological archaeologist at the rank of Assistant Professor whose research focuses on African and African diaspora archaeology.
The Department of Anthropology consists of 11 full-time faculty who engage in interdisciplinary research focusing on social inequality, human adaptation and evolution, and socioenvironmental dynamics.
The position entails teaching courses such as introductory archaeology and archaeological theory as well as upper-division courses in the individual's area of expertise.
The topics of such classes might include the historical archaeology of Africa and the African diaspora, community-engaged archaeology, and an archaeological field school.
Departmental resources include several laboratories, the Court Archaeological Research Facility, and funding opportunities to support their research through the Charles P.
Other campus resources include the African American Cultural and Resource Center, an active Black Faculty Association, Latino Faculty Association, LGBTQ Faculty and Staff Association, and Disabled Faculty and Staff Association.
The University of Cincinnati also has a newly established Faculty Enrichment Center committed to helping further the success of its faculty members.
Beyond the University, community institutions such as the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and the Cincinnati Museum Center offer opportunities for strategic partnerships.
Essential Functions- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses specific to specialty areas (as noted above).
- Develop externally funded research program.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Develop an archaeological field school course to train students in archaeological field methods.
- Conduct research in specialty area (described above) and publish research in professional journals.
- Contribute service to the department, college / university, and the profession (ex.
- Participate in curriculum and course development.
Prior to effective date of appointment, applicants must have:
- PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field.

Review of applications will begin on January 5, 2024, but the position will remain open until filled. Applicants selected as finalists for the position will be asked to submit three letters of reference.
