HCSS, a 15-time "Best Company to Work For in Texas" software company in Sugar Land is searching for an API Intern to join our Development Team This is a PAID internship where you will gain in-depth skills in our tech stack that will take you further to success. You will make an impact by contributing to our product teams to deliver high-quality software applications to our customers.

The API Technical Writing Intern will support the creation and enhancement of API documentation, including how-to guides, technical manuals, and reference materials. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with strong writing skills and a passion for technology. The intern will work closely with our development, product management, and support teams to ensure the accuracy and usability of our documentation.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write, and update API how-to documentation, including tutorials, sample code, and FAQs.
  • Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to gather technical information and user requirements.
  • Conduct research and create project plans for assigned documentation projects.
  • Get with subject matter experts (SMEs) to revise, publish, and edit documentation as necessary.
  • Provide regular status updates and seek feedback from your supervisor.
  • Engage with various departments to obtain the necessary information for accurate and comprehensive documentation.
  • Prepare a final presentation or report summarizing your internship experience and key takeaways.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of APIs, software development, and technical documentation.
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with documentation tools such as Markdown, HTML, or similar.
    Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and other relevant technologies.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Azure) and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Experience with API documentation or technical writing.

Here's what to expect:

  • This internship is semester-based and we'll work around your school schedule. For the Summer Break, you can work up to 40 hours a week. During the Fall/Spring semesters, you can work up to 25 hours a week.
  • Training and mentoring will be provided and you'll receive feedback on your performance regularly. You'll have numerous opportunities to continuously grow your knowledge base.
