Project Overview:
Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel's government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
UPF will be a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy's largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration's largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.
The UPF Construction project works on various schedules with differing start times, and may require employees to work overtime, weekends, and/or nightshift when a business need arises.
Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.
Job Summary:
Provides support to more experienced construction engineering personnel by performing routine construction engineering assignments. Assigned to a discipline position within a construction organization in an administrative or technical capacity. Completes assigned tasks under routine supervision and technical directions. #LI-CL1
Major Responsibilities:
- Prepares field change documents and requests for information.
- Prepares installation work packages, as assigned.
- Initiates requisitions for field purchases.
- Assists in preparation of quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
- Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.
- Validates installation of materials through inspection / documentation.
- Verifies material quality, workmanship, and assures results meet quality requirements based on codes, specifications, and design drawings.
- Assists in coordinating and resolving engineering, procurement, or construction problems with Superintendents or other project personnel.
- Assists supporting construction engineers, discipline superintendents, foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
- Interfacing with site utility operator.
- Interfacing with the Subcontract Technical Representatives to support onsite Subcontractors.
- Works directly with Temporary Utilities Superintendent to construct/maintain temporary construction power/data/communication systems.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 1-2 years of relevant experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment, education, and travel.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Candidate should be a self-starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and be able to work well in a team environment.
- Experience in reviewing design information, such as specification, electrical drawings, and other field drawings/plans including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and vendor documents.
- Follows defined practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
- Builds productive and collaborative internal working relationships.
- Knowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Incidents" ES&H Program.
- Continues to learn and apply professional concepts.
