The major duties include, but are not limited to the following:

General Description of Assigned Duties:


Manages people, maintains effective interdepartmental relations and cooperates with other services to accomplish the Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy mission and goals.

Develops performance standards, assures area compliance with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements, designs and implements orientation and training programs for staff and develops and maintains systems to monitor the performance of staff activities.

Develops policies and procedures relative to their assigned areas.

Program Management:


Collaborates with leadership to establish local policies and procedures that ensure compliance with all VA and all external reviewers and regulations.

Monitors the appropriate storage, security and accountability of all products.
Performs the full range of personnel management duties (see Human Resources section below).

Manages the professional and administrative aspects of the Pharmacy operation to ensure provision of timely and progressive pharmaceutical services.


Education and Development:
Stays current regarding new pharmaceutical therapies and technologies, developing standards of pharmacy practice and advances in information technology.

Actively seeks educational advancement in areas such as Project Management, Lean Six Sigma or other local or National Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy initiatives.

Provides medication and practice related education and training to professional, administrative and technical staff .Participates in and provides on-the-job training and in- service programs.

Provides guidance and training to Pharm.
D. candidates and pharmacy residents as well as Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy employees.
Ensures staff understanding and compliance with competency standards in accordance with Veterans Administration and The Joint Commission recommendations.

Human Resource Management/Supervision:
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work based on priorities, considering the difficulty of assignments and employees' capabilities.
Evaluates work performance of subordinates.
Provides advice, counsel and instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.

Inventory/Product Line Support:
Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships which reflect a cooperative attitude.
Effectively demonstrates leadership and practice management skills.
Systematically collects and evaluates quality assurance and/or performance data to ensure optimal system functionality.

Administrative/Organizational Support:
Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships which reflect a cooperative attitude.
Effectively demonstrates leadership and practice management skills.
Systematically collects and evaluates quality assurance and/or performance data to ensure optimal system functionality.

Participates effectively as a representative or leader on local and/or national Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy committees, sub-committees, or task forces and performs other duties that are deemed essential to the Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy operation.

Provides leadership in the identification and analysis of healthcare trends and usage.

Supervisory Controls:


The incumbent is under the general supervision of a Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy Associate Director/Director and is provided a great degree of autonomy in decision-making and wide latitude for independent functioning, decisions and actions.

Work assignments are given with little or no detailed direction for accomplishment of the project. Work assignments are accomplished with a high degree of independence.

Acceptable results are expected on the completed work and are reviewed only in terms of appropriateness of recommendations and soundness of judgment.

Performance is judged in terms of results achieved and decisions made and total program management effectiveness and indicated through the evaluation of management reports, briefings, audits, assessments and other similar control mechanisms.
