The Role:

Modernas Rare Diseases (RD) department is seeking a talented and motivated intern to join our team in support of developing new mRNA-based therapies. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop first-in-class therapeutics for patients in need, with lots of room for learning and growth. The intern will work on an individual project that is important to Modernas Rare Diseases Discovery and Development mission with support from an experienced mentor who will provide guidance on projects and career. Applicants should be great team members, excellent communicators, with solid organizational skills. Our ideal candidate will be highly motivated and adaptable with a strong work ethic.

Our internship program is June 3rd- August 16th. All applicants must be available and on-site for the entire duration of the program.

Heres What Youll Do: Help develop, optimize and validate cell-based assays to evaluate various mRNA therapeutics Collaborate with internal teams on initial testing of mRNAs. Collect, archive, organize and analyze samples, including those from in vivo studies Deliver reproducible and impactful results that meet deadlines Execute and troubleshoot standard protocols, adapt new protocols into practice independently, and query literature to incorporate additional assays as needed Independently execute experiments, faithfully documenting scientific work Analyze, interpret and present data Contribute to reports, regulatory submissions and presentations Heres What Youll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications): Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or other related Life Science field Fundamental knowledge and experience with wet lab techniques, including but not limited to tissue and cell culture Candidates with strong knowledge/ experience in at least one of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: Cell-based assays (e.g. transfection, transduction, viability, etc.) Protein quantification techniques (e.g. Western, ELISA, MSD, Mass Spectrometry, Luminex-based assays) RNA Purification, qPCR, other Molecular Biology techniques Computational Science and/ or Bioinformatics Capability to anticipate and recognize potential issues within experimental designs and effectively communicate alternatives Candidate will embrace our core values.You will be curious in exploring new options for assay development and data presentation, bold in proposing creative experimental designs and ideas.
