The Role

Moderna is seeking a Director of Patient Advocacy and Rare Disease Engagement, based in Cambridge, MA, to lead the development and execution of a comprehensive Patient Advocacy Strategy across our rare disease portfolio. This role will develop relationships with Patient Advocacy organizations and KOLs to advance patient care initiatives. As an advocate for the patient voice, this individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Commercial, Government Affairs, and Communications, to integrate patient insights into our enterprise-wide programs and business objectives. Additionally, the Director will play a pivotal role in shaping healthcare policy by engaging patient groups in discussions with regulatory authorities, government bodies, and health technology assessment groups, ensuring the patient perspective remains central to decision-making processes. The role will also conduct scientific exchange with prioritized HCPs.

Heres What Youll Do

Develop and implement a global Patient Advocacy strategy from clinical stage to market for Moderna and lead its successful execution. Lead the strategy across our global markets, ensuring alignment with local teams and leveraging regional insights and relationships. Drive, build, and enhance strategic alliances with national and global Patient Advocacy Groups that have a strong interest in rare disease policy through touch bases and other authentic engagements. This includes mapping key patients and rare disease groups in key markets and building relationships that enables progressing critical business objectives and improve patient care. It is important that this role take a global view of patient advocacy and rapidly expand its impact outside the US. Engage with scientific societies, patient advocacy groups, and councils to build agreement around treatment guidelines and advocate for updates where necessary. Represent Moderna at key Patient Advocacy Conferences and symposia, at national and international scientific congresses in order to progress partnerships that support better patient care. Develop and execute Patient Advisory Boards, Patient Leadership Councils and other forums in support of critical objectives pertaining to better understanding the patient true unmet need, gathering insights, supporting the amplification of the patient voice and ultimately, enabling Moderna to become embedded in the rare disease communities and ecosystem to better support patients and external stakeholders. Work with the government relations, regulatory and access teams to facilitate engagement of patients groups with regulatory authorities, government and health technology assessment groups to ensure that patient perspective is at the center of all decisions. Collaborate with government relations to develop policy strategies and advocacy papers that support enhanced patient care and lead their execution. Ensure patient materials are impactful and resonate with the community by incorporating feedback from patient advisory groups. Represent the voice ofindependent patient communities within Moderna, ensuring these perspectives shape the rare disease pipeline and related decisions. Stay abreast of the latest trends and thought leader insights in patient advocacy, integrating new ideas into Moderna's patient engagement programs. Partner with though leaders to amplify impact on patient care and achieve business objectives. Manage the Patient Advocacy budget and manage relationships with external partners or agencies. Conduct scientific exchange with HCPs in the US to support education and gather insights regarding rare diseases. Collaborate with HR and communications teams to create patient-centric materials and initiatives that raise disease awareness and connect employees to the patient journey.
