Job Overview:
As a Learning Specialist at St. Martin's Episcopal School, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our Middle and Upper School students. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about supporting students with diagnosed learning differences and academic challenges. Your primary responsibilities will include developing individualized learning strategies, enhancing students' organizational and executive functioning skills, and improving their overall study techniques. You will provide individual and small-group instruction tailored to the student's unique needs.

This pivotal role involves working closely with the Division Heads, Academic Dean, and School Counselor to proactively identify and assist Middle and Upper School students facing academic challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and oversee learning support programs tailored to the needs of our students.
  2. Provide specialized support in learning strategies, organization, executive functioning, and study skills.
  3. Regularly assess and report on student academic achievement and progress.
  4. Organize and lead discussions during parent and faculty conferences to review student progress.
  5. Interpret and summarize psycho-educational evaluations to better tailor educational approaches.
  6. Create and deliver in-service workshops aimed at enhancing faculty understanding of diverse learning styles and effective curriculum strategies.
  7. Design individualized Student Learning Plans to address specific educational needs.
  8. Offer guidance to families about available learning support services.
  9. Coordinate student standardized testing and support the admissions process, particularly for students with learning differences.
  10. Engage actively in Student Support Team (SST) meetings and serve on the Admission Committee.
  11. Establish and maintain effective communication and documentation standards for learning support activities.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School. Required Qualifications, Knowledge And Skills
    1. BA in Education (Masters preferred) with Special Education specialization
    2. Experience with and knowledge of current understandings about individualized education plans and services in an independent school, and learning disability intervention.
    3. Understanding of psycho-educational development of students in grades 5 -12
    4. A minimum of five years of experience as a learning specialist or teacher. Independent school experience preferred.
    5. Familiarity with legal responsibilities of independent schools related to IEP and 504 plans.
    6. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing
    7. Physically able to perform essential functions in a variety of settings
