Essential Function 1

As part of a traveling maintenance team, travels to various locations throughout Southern IL to perform carpentry job duties as a member of the South Maintenance Team.


  • Performs general carpentry work in the repair, maintenance, construction or alteration of wooden floors, walls, roofs, stairs, benches, doors, windows, screens, signs, barricades, and similar wooden articles or structures.
  • Performs minor paint jobs as needed to carpentry work that is assigned.

rks in a carpenter shop with the ability and knowledge to operate saws, jointers, planers, mortising machines, sanders, drill presses and lathes on millwork.

Builds and erects scaffolding and forms.

Essential Function 4

Sharpens hand tools and performs maintenance on equipment.

Essential Function 5

Assists, instructs, and monitors skilled and unskilled workers as it pertains to the repair and performance of carpentry assignments.

Performs incidental pattern making or cabinetwork.

Determines supplies needed to perform carpentry or cabinet work to complete work orders and requests for expenditures.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires completion of an approved apprenticeship program to qualify as a journey level carpenter.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient with the tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the trade
  • Capability to instruct beginners and unskilled workers in the trade
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from plans, simple drawings, and/or sketches
  • Ability to make simple arithmetical computation and bulk estimates of materials needed
Employment Condition

  • Requires the ability to pass a DoD background investigation and obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) prior to hire or transfer.
  • Requires statewide travel as part of a Maintenance Team within the normal workday hours.
  • Requires possession of appropriate valid driver's license.
  • Requires ability to lift and carry 80 pounds, i.
e., heavy boxes, supplies and equipment.

  • Requires being on feet for long periods of time.
  • Requires ability to be on feet, climb ladders and stairs, and/or stooping for long periods of time.
  • Ability to withstand extreme temperature changes.
