The Nurse Practitioner will work in one or more Behavioral Health programs either on the main campus or at outlying clinics associated with the Boise VA Medical Center.

The psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will need to be an effective communicator and team player who collaborates with multiple disciplines within behavioral health and medical/surgical specialties.

The incumbent will need to demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, veteran-centric care, and willingness to continuously improve care delivery.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Possesses interpersonal and clinical skills to provide psychiatric and medical care for VA patients.

Conducts comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and provides treatment in light of biological, psychological, behavioral, and social factors to patients age 18 and older who suffer from mental, behavioral, or emotional disorders including substance abuse.

Conducts comprehensive physical evaluations, work ups, diagnostic assessments, and provides treatment to the same veteran population as above.

Provides education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and medications, when appropriate.

Orders and takes appropriate action for all necessary laboratory tests, electrocardiograms (EKG), radiologic assessments, and other clinical tests.
Triages and initiates referrals as clinically indicated.
Documents patient encounters timely in the computerized records.
Supports facility educational mission by attending case conferences, psychiatry presentations, and Grand Rounds when able.
