Become a part of a team committed to working together to create transformative learning experiences for all UAF students.

UAF's Center for Teaching and Learning seeks an instructional designer who will lead our emerging efforts to provide targeted professional development programming for graduate teaching assistants. The right candidate will join our highly collaborative office culture focused on improving education by working directly with instructors at all levels to meet the changing needs of university students.

As one of our Instructional Designers, you'll collaboratively create and lead programming for UAF graduate teaching assistants and other instructors to share best practices in higher education teaching and learning. Programming will range from hour-long workshops to credit-bearing courses and will often be hybrid or remotely accessible to reach stakeholders around the state.

Applicants are expected to have familiarity/working knowledge of some combination of the following:

Instructional design based on learning theory; Adult learning theory; Familiarity with or understanding of a range of graduate student experiences; Facilitation in small and large group contexts; Familiarity with project management; Learning and/or content management systems. A successful applicant will have a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Experience as a graduate student and/or teaching assistant is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAF campus in Fairbanks, and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.

Review of applicants will begin May 6, 2024, to ensure full consideration you must apply by midnight of May 5, 2024.

Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, CV/resume, and portfolio of relevant work. The goal of a portfolio is to showcase specific projects, collaborations, and/or digital products. Possible areas include but are not limited to: teaching in higher education, course design, open educational resources, cloud-based collaboration, and presentation or face-to-face training and facilitation skills. Successful candidates may have weaknesses in some areas that are outweighed by expertise in others.

Successful portfolios are easy for users to navigate, include multimedia, and provide some descriptive context for the elements included. Portfolios are not meant to be comprehensive of an applicant's work, but to highlight specific skills and abilities. The design of the portfolio is considered along with the content and applicants will be asked to present on their portfolio at the interview stage.
