The Elementary Associate Teacher position offers an entry-level opportunity in independent school education. The Elementary Associate Teacher will work closely with Lead Teachers in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 4. The primary role of the Elementary Associate Teacher will be to teach science to the students in Grades Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 1. Additional instructional responsibilities will include teaching social studies in collaboration with the Primary School Lead teachers, and may also include preparing and instructing reading groups and teaching a Lower School course.
The successful applicant must clearly demonstrate motivation and intellectual curiosity, and enjoy working with eager, agile, and energetic students, ages 4-10. Candidates must also display a strong sense of collegiality, flexibility, openness, and effective communication skills as these qualities are vital for effective work in a collaborative learning community. A love of children, technology proficiency, and a desire to contribute beyond the classroom are also important attributes of a successful candidate.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
- Facilitates science instruction to students in Grades Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 1, in small groups and in learning centers.
- Collaborate with Lead teachers in the Primary School to implement the social studies curriculum.
- Support Lead teachers and Learning Support team with completing assessments.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. - Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of early elementary school programs.
- Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school; demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Attend all required staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.
- Provide student support services including monitoring the lunchroom and playground.
- Communicate in a positive, professional manner at all times.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunities.
- Participate in school wide events. The ideal candidate will be energized by working collaboratively with colleagues in a multi-age setting. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for teaching and social/emotional wellness of young school students and their families along with a deep commitment to equity and inclusion. A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools is essential. Basic requirements include but are not limited to:
- Elementary Education teaching certificate with evidence of strong teaching abilities.
- Excellent rapport with and knowledge of elementary students and enjoy working with them in a variety of school activities.
- Openness to collaborating and working with Lead Teacher; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the ASH community.
- Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs.
