Position Title: Marine Superintendent
Reports To: Fleet Manager
Duties and Responsibilities: The Marine Superintendent's function is to manage the shore marine support for assigned vessels ensuring their safe and efficient operation.
The Marine Superintendent works closely with the Superintendent Engineer on daily operational aspects.
Ensure the Company Safety, Quality and Environmental policies and procedures are understood and implemented onboard all company vessels. Lead and manage vessel crews to achieve safe and efficient vessel operation. Clearly communicate to all shipboard personnel that their safety and the protection of the environment are the company's primary concern and that the prevention of injuries and illness onboard our vessels should be fundamental to all operational decisions.
Direct resolution of operating problems and issues concerning:
- Crew
- Port safety
- Cargo handling
- Bridge Management
- Vessel trim/stability and stress analysis
- Under Keel Clearance
- Letters of indemnity
- Speed and performance
- Tracking of insurance claims
Remains abreast of and ensures vessels are in compliance with all regulatory initiatives including:
- Flag State
- Port State
- Customer and terminal policies
- International, Federal and State
Have working knowledge of Maintenance and Health, Safety, Security, Quality and Environmental (HSSQE) modules in NSE, monitor and ensure that requisitions, service requests, and all elements of the HSQE module are properly created and completed and be responsible for proposing corrective actions and verifying closure of incidents and nonconformities onboard vessels.
Manages and assign duties to the Assistant Marine Superintendent (where applicable).
A key member of the Home Office Emergency Response Team.
Focal point for ports, terminals, vetting agencies, USCG, etc.
Assist and participate on Incident investigations
Member of the MOC Board
Takes an active role in recruitment / selection of Masters / Chief Mate and will recommend promotions to both Chief Mate and Master.
Training orientation of Masters / Chief Mate - process & systems
Monitoring voyage performance - speed & consumptions and verifying the ships are meeting TC requirements.
Point of contact for general commercial issues including customer support
Industry bodies - representative
Monitors deck maintenance with particular attention to safety, cargo handling, mooring navigation and coating maintenance.
Responsible for responding to customers on vetting closures.
Advise the Technical Superintendent of required repairs and provide detail of shipyard repairs/modifications required on assigned vessels
Responsible for ensuring assigned vessels meet stakeholder requirements, including:
- Federal and applicable State/Port Authorities
- Customer's ship terminal policies
- Company policies
- Coding invoices and receipts when necessary
- Travel in support of ship operations; convenes safety meetings during vessel visits, addressing issues important to management
- Promotes a professional relationship with the officers and crew
Perform such other tasks, duties and responsibilities as may be required or directed by the Fleet Manager
