Your Mission

We are seeking driven Analytical Chemists who are eager to contribute to the development of new medicines and breakthroughs to join our Analytical Technologies and Compound Management (ATCM) team. As an NMR-MS Senior Principal Scientist and Lab Head, you will lead the ATCM NMR-MS group, utilizing small molecule NMR and Mass Spectrometry to drive the design and synthesis of Pfizer's medicinal chemistry portfolio. Your role will involve collaborating closely with medicinal chemistry to determine compound structures and drive advancements for the Pfizer Discovery Portfolio. Additionally, you will be responsible for setting the strategy for the ATCM NMR-MS group and overseeing the maintenance of NMR and Mass Spec instruments. Your innovative mindset will be crucial in developing new methods using NMR and Mass Spec to enhance drug discovery.

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Develop the strategy for ATCM Small Molecule NMR-MS to support Pfizer's East Coast Medicinal Chemistry and Design portfolio.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of NMR spectroscopists and Mass Spectrometrists.
  • Contribute to ATCM's strategy as part of the leadership team.
  • Improve and maintain the small molecule NMR and MS instrumentation fleet.
  • Characterize and determine the structure of various molecules using advanced NMR techniques.
  • Conduct conformational analyses to drive lead compound optimizations.
  • Explore new technologies in ATCM, such as high-throughput NMR and Mass Spec.
  • Engage in teamwork and uphold a culture of scientific excellence within the ATCM Group.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • 15+ years of industry experience with a bachelor's degree, 11+ years with a Master's degree or 8+ years with a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related fields.
  • Known for high scientific judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise in scientific strategies and mentoring.
  • Proven track record of teamwork and project delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of NMR and MS instrumentation and software.
  • Proficiency in NMR software packages and strong communication skills.

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with other analytical methods and organic chemistry.
  • Experience in computational chemistry or information technology.
  • Knowledge of Gaussian and DFT calculations.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • The role involves lab work, operating equipment, and problem-solving.
