Job Overview

Direct all administrative and operational activities of the Department of Environmental Health & Safety.

Essential Functions

  • Initiate policy; develop, implement and direct a comprehensive environmental health & safety operations program for the University of Cincinnati.
  • Advise the university administration on matters of potential liability and act as liaison with outside government agencies.
  • Inspect property for potential safety hazards and recommend improvements; supervise the investigation of accidents to determine cause, recommend corrective action, and coordinate university's response to external regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance of institutional operations with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Keep abreast of federal and state of Ohio laws and statues governing compliance.
  • Manage financial planning operations to ensure a stable and balanced financial performance.
  • Monitor and evaluate health & safety programs for cost effectiveness.
  • Train and instruct support staff on methods and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of environmental regulations and their impact on the current and future facility.
  • Prepare necessary statistics and reports.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non exempt staff (i.
e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree must be in technical science, engineering, or related science field

Required Trainings/Certifications

Professional certification in one or more Environmental Health & Safety fields.

Required Experience

Seven (7) years of work experience in safety program including building and safety codes.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Master's Degree in technical science, engineering, or related science field.
