Overview

The Cash Application Specialist is an essential part of the Accounting team, responsible for ensuring the accurate accounting and reporting of cash in alignment with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role requires a skilled communicator and problem-solver who can effectively collaborate with various departments. The specialist will utilize advanced systems and computing tools to streamline accounting and reporting processes. Key responsibilities include managing the cash application process, acting as a liaison between different financial functions, resolving payment and invoicing issues, and collaborating with multiple departments to address and resolve financial discrepancies. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, advanced Excel proficiency, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Take primary ownership of the entire cash application process, ensuring accurate and timely application of customer remittances and payments.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to investigate and resolve any unapplied customer cash received.
  • Act as the central liaison between Billing, Collections, and Accounting functions within the Finance department to ensure seamless communication and problem-solving.
  • Proactively investigate and resolve payment or invoicing issues by engaging directly with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure all discrepancies are addressed promptly.
  • Work closely with various departments, including Sales, Legal, Business Operations, Services, Accounts Payable, Billing, and Collections, to resolve financial issues and ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Complete ad hoc reporting and handle additional project requests as assigned by managers, providing timely and accurate data to support decision-making processes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of hands-on professional experience in a corporate environment, with a focus on accounting, banking, finance, or related fields.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Strong experience using Excel functions such as VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and other advanced tools, along with a willingness to learn and adapt to new systems and technologies.
  • Ability to process high volumes of transactions with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Have a basic understanding of cash reconciliations, with the ability to ask questions, investigate discrepancies and problem solve
  • Ability to work standard business hours Eastern Time (Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using NetSuite, Celigo, Salesforce, Paystand and Payoneer.
  • A solid working knowledge of accounting principles, finance concepts, and transaction processing.
  • Previous experience in transaction processing or cash reporting, showcasing the ability to handle complex financial data and reporting tasks.
