Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to inspect housing facilities, recreational\r
facilities, and retail establishments to verify compliance with federal and\r
state laws and regulations that govern public health and safety. This position\r
will also take samples, conduct investigations, provide consultation and\r
training, and take action against unsafe and unhealthy conditions. This\r
position will ensure that mobile home parks, and youth camps are operated in a\r
safe, sanitary, and secure manner by making sure that manufacturers are selling\r
consumer products according to federal requirements.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:���Determined by the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.\r
Experience: Four years of environmental health work experience in the promotion, control, and maintenance of environmental health.\r
Notes:�\r
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in public health or environmental health sciences from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.\r
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military�service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or�higher as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering�specialty codes in the Engineering and Science field of work�on a year-for-year basis for the�required experience.\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:\r

1. Experience reviewing camp safety plans and designs for pool construction.\r

\r
2. Experience in public speaking.\r

3. Experience in customer service.\r
\r

4. Experience working in and maintaining databases.\r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.�Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as�an Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland State Board of�Environmental Health Specialists.� A photocopy of current registration must be�attached to the application form.\r
