Business Development Specialist

Typical Duties/Job Duties Provides timely and sound advice and guidance to potential and current small business owners in such areas as business startup, business plans, loan proposals, cash flow management, financing, financial analysis, marketing, market analysis, bookkeeping, operations audits, human resources, and government contracting. Advising services are provided through one-on-one counseling, email, virtual sessions as well as client research conducted on behalf of the business owner. Meets or exceeds assigned client impact goals associated with the direct economic impact of the SBDC advising services through various data collection efforts; including, client meetings and follow up, client growth assessments, and success stories narratives to be completed in accordance with the program requirements. Participates in the regional advisor certification program and completes certification requirements in accordance with SBA / SBDC requirements. Develops and serves as a trainer/facilitator for workshops and seminars offered by the SBDC . Presents subject matter though lectures, audio visual presentations, both in person and through virtual webinars. Encourages and enhances learning through the use of creative and innovative presentations and instructional formats. Represents the ASU SBDC at community functions and engages area economic development organizations and other SBDC stakeholders to foster business development and gain small business client referrals. Participate in regular rural area day travel to provide the above-mentioned job duties in the 10 county service area of the ASU SBDC .Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of small business management including startup, expansion/business growth. Areas of knowledge also include business planning, accounting, financing, financial analysis, marketing, human resources, and government procurement.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of adult education.
- Knowledge, intermediate or above level, of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
- Skilled in oral and written communications. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Skilled in interpersonal relations and working in a team environment.
- Ability to develop and present technical training courses on a variety of business topics.
- Ability to effectively communicate to individuals and groups of people and exhibit subject matter expertise.
- Ability to organize and complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to perform work requiring attention to detail.
- Ability to achieve assigned client impact goals.
- Ability to operate a variety of office computer equipment.
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, communication or other directly related field.
- Three years of experience in any combination of the following:
small business owner, autonomous general manager in a small business, consultant to small business, staff member of a business development organization, or business education/training.
