Position Overview

The Safety Manager is responsible for reducing the risk of job-related incidents, accidents, and injuries by implementing, promoting, and auditing policies that support Ameriflight's Safety Management System. This position also assists in managing aspects of Ameriflight's Hazardous Materials Acceptance and Shipping program, EPA compliance, and Emergency Response Plan. Regular travel to other base locations is required. The overarching goal of the Safety Manager is to ensure compliance with Ameriflight's Environmental Health Safety Management System (EHSMS).

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Director of Safety in developing and administering safety training programs required by both federal regulation (FAA, DOT, TSA, EPA, and OSHA) and company policy.
  • Ensure the company is in compliance with applicable Federal OSHA, DOT and TSA standards as well as state approved plans.
  • Assist in developing content for, promote, and lead monthly safety meetings for all employees, emphasizing different aspects of the company EHSMS.
  • Manage the company Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) for the mechanic group.
  • Collaborate with operational managers from Maintenance, Operations, and Supply Chain in conducting safety facility inspections and internal evaluations regarding EHSMS compliance.
  • Assist in investigating accidents, incidents, and injuries to learn and determine how they might be prevented.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • 2+ years airline, or military, experience preferably with Safety, Reliability, or Auditing.
  • Advanced knowledge of SMS principles, FAA, DOT, and OSHA safety regulations is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as the Federal Register, FAR's and procedures manuals.
  • An ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and an ability to speak effectively before large groups.
  • Ability to understand and process complex information and exercise sound judgment, considering the situation, issues, key players, and levels of authority involved.
  • Experience in working collaboratively and cross functionally across different levels of an organization is essential.
