Job Introduction

It's an exciting time to be part of BBC News. We are expanding in North America, our biggest market outside of the UK, and we are recruiting for an experienced Business Manager to play a critical role in our growth.

The BBC is the most trusted news brand in the US. The right person for this role will support the Business Unit's (BU) engagement in cross-team issues and projects. By monitoring KPI performance, providing advice and business support the job holder will enable delivery of the BU's key priorities.

Key Responsibilities

The role will encompass some or all of the below 'Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities'; actual scope will be dependent on which BU the role operates within:
  • Participate in projects/working groups and initiatives providing information as required to help group achieve project goals.
  • Support the implementation of strategic priorities and policies by providing and collating information as required.
  • Support the monitoring of the BU financial performance against budget, working with finance specialist and the management team to devise remedial actions.
  • Support policy and procedure compliance by working with divisional specialists (e.g. IT, HR, Business Continuity, H&S etc.) as required.
  • Act as deputy for the Executive Manager.
  • Oversee the daily output for the News Channel and manage day to day output operations.
  • Provide professional skill set line management for Washington, DC and New York administrative team, due to the expansion of the operation.
  • Play a key role in the current projects in Washington and development of key initiatives for the new operations across the US.
  • Review overhead operating cost to reduce expenditure and highlight savings.
  • Oversee assigned productions, budgeting, staffing and expenditure ensuring all stays within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with BBC policies and BAU US government filing requirements.
  • Act as the ITC/Asset Manager.
  • Implement systems to streamline processes and accountability.

• Experience of providing the business with administration and management assistance to an environment of similar complexity.

• Demonstrable experience of maintaining constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

• Project management skills with an ability to improve organisational effectiveness and support a culture of continuous improvement.

• Well organised with some experience of using analytical skills to forward plan and to make effective prioritised and timely operational decisions.

• Effective communication skills both orally and in writing and ability to target content for the audience.

• Strong computer skills with strong experience of office software packages (i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

• Good influencing skills, face-to-face and in writing.

• Ability to work with limited supervision, using own initiative to resolve most problems.

• Media sector experience.
