Intermediate District 287 is looking for a Deaf Blind Intervener for an opening with our Itinerant Programs for Fall 2024

This position will provide individual support to students who are DeafBlind, which refers to a combination of hearing and vision loss that affects the way a student is able to access information and function in the educational environment.

Intermediate District 287 is a west metro district for learners with unique needs. As an intermediate district, we provide specialized services, primarily setting IV special education, to students from 12 member districts in the west metro - Brooklyn Center, Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Orono, Osseo, Richfield, Robbinsdale, St. Louis Park, Wayzata, and Westonka.

There is a variety of support services in each school including School Social Workers, Psychologists, Counselors, Behavior Intervention Specialists and Student Safety Coaches. All of whom are student-centered and focused on building relationships with each child.

Position Details:

Provide visual and auditory information to DeafBlind students.
Support learners who are deafblind in communication, language, mobility, personal care, sensory, and other developmental needs through sign language and/or other visual supports throughout all activities in the school day in special education and/or general education settings based on learner needs.
Provide access to information, environments, and material for the student who may otherwise be unable to access or understand due to sensory impairments.
Guide students through activities and hands-on exploration of materials as appropriate.
Adapt instructional materials, equipment, or strategies, under the direction of the teacher or other licensed professionals.
Help to maintain safety of the student and the environment.
Participate in training/in-service as assigned.

Position Details:

Competitive Pay: $ $29.02 per hour depending on experience and education

Education & Experience Requirements:

Interested in candidates who are: diverse, bilingual, or have experience working with diverse populations.
High school diploma or a general education development (GED) certificate
Two (2) years of full-time employment or equivalent working with individuals with special needs.

Substitution Allowed: College training may be substituted for the General Experience
Willingness to complete a district-paid certification program for Deaf Blind Intervener Certificate.
District will provide training through Bright Works, Inc. (formerly Metro ECSU) for candidates who do not already have the training.
