Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.



Duties

A staff physician, Primary Care, is responsible for maintaining professional, technical, and administrative knowledge, competencies, and skills to provide effective, timely and quality responses to patients' health care needs. They are responsible for the primary care of at least 800 patients and eight weekly clinic sessions. All physicians comply with credentialing and privileging and required monitoring and evaluation criteria. The physicians maintain high clinical standards that are carried into decision making processes, and continually strive to maintain and enhance teaching skills to effectively teach residents and students. The physicians comply with current standards for medical documentation and residency supervision. Physicians will achieve a ninety-percent compliance rate with the established Chronic Disease and Prevention indicators. The physicians will provide appropriate care for veterans ranging in age from 18 through the geriatric years, taking into consideration diagnosis and physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs.

Personally responsible for the primary care of assigned patient panel across the continuum of care to include: comprehensive health assessment; case management; continuity and coordination of care between patient and extended long term care, outpatient, parent advocacy, and compliance with chronic disease and prevention indicators.

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities to: conduct comprehensive health assessments; determine diagnoses and health care needs; and to construct health care plans based on effective therapeutic ability, consultation, patient education and established practice guidelines.
  • Demonstrate ability to coordinate patient care through patient management techniques within assigned Primary Care team.
  • Maintain effectiveness in recognizing emergency/acute situations and intervening in an appropriate and effective manner.
  • Documents patients' health care clearly, adequately and accurately as defined by medical record documentation, chronic disease and prevention indicators.
  • Ensure supervision for primary care nurse practitioners, Physicians' Assistants, Students, and Allied Healthcare Students.
  • Maintains a high standard of teaching through patient care experiences in the clinics, during inpatient rounding and in teaching physical diagnosis.
  • Ensures that levels of supervision are documented in medical record according to Medical Center policy.
  • Maintain clinical and administrative competencies.
  • Manages patient workload and wait times in compliance with the Customer Service Standards, to assure the most effective, efficient service to the patients.

Recruitment/Relocation: May be authorized for highly qualified candidates

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
