Physician (Section Chief Urgent Care)

The Section Chief of Urgent Care (UC) is responsible for maintaining high quality of patient care and oversees UC metrics which include quality of care, patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction.
As a leader, the Chief of Urgent Care will act and lead as a change agent and liaison.The Chief of UC is expected to mentor and motivate the Urgent Care team to be successful in the delivery of high quality medical care to Veterans seen in Urgent Care.
The Chief of Urgent Care will work collaboratively to develop a culture that is transparent and non-punitive but also fosters strong accountability and personal commitment to the VA Bedford Health Care System.
The Section Chief of Urgent Care position is 80% clinical duties and 20% administrative duties.Functions of the Section Chief of Urgent Care Services include but are not limited to:
Attends to patients in Urgent Care on a daily basis. Practice will be within the scope of practice and privileging of an Urgent Care physician.
Procedures expected to be performed are the same/similar to what is done in a primary care office and include but are not limited to:
I&D of abscess, female pelvic exams, directing wound care/dressings, simple foreign body removal not requiring incision or deep exploration.
Note, suturing is not required for this position.Refers to specialists, orders labs, X-rays, other imaging as necessary; follows up results and notifies patients of all testing results.
Coordinates with Primary Care PACT Team when patient requires close follow up after being seen in Urgent Care.Transfers to higher level of care, i.e., ED for any patients that are unstable, require admission, require testing not available at Bedford VAMC, require same day specialist evaluation or any other condition that would deem the patient not safe to be discharged from UC to home.
Serves as a member of Code Blue Team attending to medical emergencies on the Bedford Campus.Teaches trainees when rotating through Urgent Care.
Program management responsibilities, overseeing daily operations in Urgent Care, overseeing performance measurements, improvement projects, making recommendations for staffing, space, equipment.
Participates in the facility CPR Committee and other committees, projects, and teams as needed.Works within a cooperative structure in conjunction with the SAC Service Line Manager, SAC Nurse Manager, Administrative Officer, and SAC Program Management analyst.
Maintains BLS and ACLS certification up to date.Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment) Authorized:
This position is eligible for the
Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP),
a student loan payment reimbursement program.
You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Pay:
Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off:
50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement:

Licensure:
1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME:
Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract:
No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday (8:00am to 4:30pm)
