Job Description
1) Work closely with VPC Applications Engineers on the following types of projects involving Vicor Power Components:
a) Design and prototyping of new demonstration boards and reference designs.
b) Troubleshooting and optimizing new demonstration boards and reference designs.
c) Evaluating and characterizing new VPC products.
d) Generating datasheet and application note laboratory data.
e) Researching and testing new circuits and components which work with Vicor power componenets at a system level.
f) Performing system level testing on power supplies implemented with Vicor power components.
g) Troubleshooting and optimizing customer systems which use Vicor power components.
2) Maintain VPC applications laboratory equipment and bench complement, keeping records of calibrations, researching and testing new equipment, and managing the stock of components in the lab.
3) Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by:
a) Aiding in the generation of new schematics and PCB designs
b) Maintenance and release of BOMs (Bill of Material) for new demonstration systems and reference designs and working closely with either a contract manufacturer or operations during the initial build of an applications board.
c) Building prototype boards and circuits for new systems and perform initial testing and evaluation to validate new designs against the schematic and PCB layout.d) Performing system test procedures and document results.
e) Generating complete reports of the results of experiments, troubleshooting and testing performed on the bench and utilize this data to improve the design and utility of the Applications Engineering tools and products.
Education / Qualifications
- Associates degree and 5+ years experience as technician, technical aide, or engineering aide.
- Familiarity with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of power supplies and systems (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Network Analyzers, EMI analyzers, loads, sources, etc.)
- Proficiency soldering small surface mount components with good accuracy and cleanliness. IPC J-STD-001 soldering certification a plus.
- Ability to methodically approach tasks and projects, manage time, and document results and procedures with minimal supervision.
- Troubleshooting skills with basic power systems a plus.
- Familiarity with CAD and office tools (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc., especially Altium) a plus
- Familiarity with design and testing associated with Intel Power Delivery specifications (especially VR12.0 or later) a plus
