The Instructor for Library Research has critical responsibility as the Outreach & Engagement Librarian of coordinating targeted outreach programs and information literacy instruction for foundational and first-year core courses.

This position also leads marketing efforts for McDermott Library and provides research assistance for the United States Air Force Academy community.

The Outreach & Engagement Librarian is a member of the Research Services Department at the McDermott Library and will focus on holistically addressing cadets' library needs at a service academy.

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Public Services.

Coordinate library outreach programs, events and services designed to support first-year students' needs in their transition to college research and foster inclusive community at McDermott Library.

Lead marketing efforts for McDermott Library by integrating different forms of media to promote library services and increase user engagement with library staff, faculty, and resources.

Build collaborations with faculty to teach information literacy and foundational research skills and leading instructional design for Research Services.
Develop formal and informal channels of communication with the Cadet Wing and support agencies (e.g. Academic Success Center) to build, engage, and develop outreach programs promoting information literacy. Provide research consultation for cadets, in-person and virtually, using in-depth knowledge of academic library resources.

Evaluate and implement academic library trends and best practices while participating in professional development to help guide innovation and instructional design to meet the changing needs of first year students.

Collaborate with colleagues on collection development of library resources.

Participate in professional development and scholarship that will contribute to the development of library strategic goals, instructional design, and the Library and Information Science discipline.

Perform other liaison functions as assigned to support McDermott Library and Academy missions; serve on library and Academy committees or working groups, as appropriate.

Support annual library strategic goals and initiatives (e.g., scholarly communications, assessment, data services, outreach, etc.) as directed by library leadership; contributes to the development of services and resources to support teaching, learning and scholarship.
