Environmental Compliance Coordinator or Senior Environmental Compliance Coordinator

Ensures company compliance, at natural gas pipeline construction projects and operations facilities within a specific region, with environmental requirements associated with permits and regulations as well as company standards and procedures addressing erosion & sediment control, chemical safety management, waste management, and wildlife management. Responsible for fulfilling frontline compliance monitoring and support activities and serves as the environmental compliance liaison with external organizations and governmental agencies.
This role specifically coordinates with corporate, operations, and engineering & construction organizations. Inspects or investigates or assesses and provides practical recommendations regarding compliance issues to management. Leads or contributes to Root Cause Analyses. Analyzes data and prepares management reports and environmental compliance reports and records. Serves as an environmental contact, in collaboration with business unit and corporate representatives, with the community to resolve complaints or problems. Assists in the procurement of services and materials for the administration and implementation of environmental programs.
In collaboration with corporate subject matter experts, this role performs waste sampling and waste determinations, designates waste management requirements and then coordinates recycling or disposal activities with the corporate waste team. Performs SARA/EPCRA and similar compliance activities, fulfills submission requirements and addresses related local/state required submissions. Serves as an on-scene coordinator for emergency response to releases of regulated substances.
Provides training to promote comprehension and the practical application of environmental compliance aspects. Evaluates new requirements and coordinates compliance activities to meet them. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Note: This position can be located in Raleigh, Gastonia or Troutman, North Carolina.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Environmental Compliance Coordinator:
- Directly related experience and knowledge typically gained from Associate's degree plus 4 years relevant experience or Bachelor's degree plus at least 2 years relevant experience
- Knowledge of related environmental regulations and applicable environmental requirements
- Ability to develop, implement and administer complex environmental compliance plans
- Ability to interpret and/or apply environmental requirements to company operations and translate regulatory regulations, permit and plan requirements into understandable compliance guidance
- Ability to prepare and/or review compliance and regulatory documents and reports
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking skills
- Analytical and records management skills
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, to include Word, Excel and Power Point)
- Organizational skills and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and in field environments with difficult terrain
- Must be capable of responding to callouts afterhours, weekends and holidays
Senior Environmental Compliance Coordinator:
- Significant directly related experience and knowledge typically gained from Associate's degree plus 7 years relevant experience or Bachelor's degree plus at least 5 years relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of related environmental regulations and applicable environmental permits
- Proven ability to develop, implement and administer complex environmental compliance plans and processes
- Ability to interpret and/or apply environmental requirements to company operations and translate regulatory regulations, permit and plan requirements into understandable compliance guidance
- Ability to prepare and/or review compliance and regulatory documents and reports
- Advanced technical writing, communication and public relations skills
- Strong data analysis and records management skills
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, to include Word, Excel and Power Point)
- Excellent organizational, time management and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed
- Must be capable of responding to callouts afterhours, weekends and holidays
- Ability to work in field environments and in difficult terrain
- Ability to manage contract resources
- Ability to diplomatically handle sensitive situations with regulatory agencies, the public, and company personnel at all levels
Education Requirements
Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associate or Bachelor
