This position is part of a dynamic, results-oriented marketing team that supports Nationwide's Life Insurance business. Specifically, this exciting role is the marketing strategy lead for Nationwide's suite of long-term care solutions and will work closely with a passionate team of long-term care experts from Business Development, Actuary, Sales, and Advanced Markets Planning. Leading candidates for this role should have expertise in the life insurance and long-term care in addition to strategic-thinking, executive communication, and marketing strategy competencies. Job Description Summary
Job Summary: Utilizes a mastery of marketing competencies to lead in the development and implementation of overall business and marketing strategy and action plans. Develops and/or applies highly advanced principles and best practices. Leads the development and execution of strategies and plans that ensure long term sustainable growth of the business. Plans effective development and/or execution of long-range and complex marketing projects. Projects or forecasts future marketing needs. Synthesizes data and intuition on all areas of the business and leverages this understanding to identify and innovate business building solutions. Provides thought leadership and direction relative to assigned area of responsibility and multiple projects.

Job Description

The Life Product & Solutions Marketing Team partners closely with the business and sales to:
  • Analyze the life insurance market to help bring the optimal products and services to market.
  • Deliver product positioning and applicable launch materials to enable sales at launch.
  • Innovate new ways to deliver marketing to current and emerging channels to meet and exceed sales goals.
  • Develop and maintain core marketing materials and engaging tools.
The senior consultant position will own a critical role in developing and activating these key initiatives, primarily focusing on our CareMatters, Long-term care rider, and no-lapse guarantee products. This individual will be responsible for select product categories' early stage solutions development, ownership and development of product positioning and the creation and maintenance of core marketing materials.

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Manage marketing strategy, positioning, and content of assigned product categories
  • Partner with the business and teammates to analyze Nationwide's market opportunities in life insurance
  • Gain and share deep understanding of motivation or target markets
  • Partner with marketing funnel teams to deliver tactical plans and manage individual projects associated with annual marketing plans
  • Partner with sales to deliver critical promotions and events of product lines
  • Manage projects that require a strong analytical skillset
  • Optimize and maintain inventory and progress of marketing materials and contents of web sites.
  • Manage run work including reports and budget management

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director/AVP/VP. This is an individual contributor but may have direct reports based on organizational structure. May also be responsible for virtual and project teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Connection: Leads development and execution of strategies and plans that ensure long term sustainable growth of the business. Interprets and synthesizes data using intuition on all areas of the business and leverages this understanding to identify, innovate and execute business building solutions.

Insights and Analytics: For wide array of projects, directs the utilization of Customer Insights & Analytics experts and tools to understand and forecast market, competitor and customer needs and behavior, define appropriate target audiences, evaluate sufficiency, and effectively drive results with data based decisions. Helps build a learning culture through coaching and mentoring.

Branding: Directs and champions the brand within area of responsibility and across the organization through collaborative efforts, including the development and delivery of the On Your Side Experience to all stakeholders driving customer value (solutions and experience). Ensures consistency of the "brand experience" for all customers (end-users and intermediaries), considering company values and legal/compliance requirements.

Marketing Communications: Leads and develops strategy and creative brief for communications plans and their implementation through creative services, including creation of the brand experience via superior Marketing Communications. Directs the development, testing and evaluation (via market metrics) of all marketing within area of responsibility. Role Models and coaches strong personal oral and written communication skills in both internal and external presentations and communications.

Marketing Capabilities: Leveraging his/her own mastery, contributes to the development of increased Marketing Capability both within the team and across the Marketing organization. Also helps other functions understand the role of Marketing in driving the business. Coaches and mentors skill and knowledge growth in others.

Organization Management: Strong project management capability; leads teams to accomplish specific goals; contributes to training and development for self and others; assists with workflow and organizational planning. Recommends project and department-specific budget needs and manages budget to goal.

Other: Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Graduate level degree in marketing, business administration or related field highly desirable.

Designations/ Certifications/ Licenses: Technical insurance designations such as CPCU, CLU, ChFC, FLMI considered a plus. Additional licensing may be required to hold this position.

Associates must obtain the required Federal and/or state licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit. Additional licenses/registrations may be required when new products and services are implemented. If an associate fails or is unable to obtain required licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position.

Experience: Typically ten or more years related professional experience in marketing, field sales management, insurance or related field, Masters degree may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirements as appropriate. Prior marketing development and project leadership exposure/experience preferred.

Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of marketing methodologies, insurance and/or financial services products including regulatory environment, distribution systems, and customers. Knowledge of product distribution methods.

Skills/ Competencies: Command of verbal and written skills needed to develop and review research studies, communicate research findings, market recommendations based on findings, develop and negotiate contracts/service agreements with internal/external contacts, and manage multiple projects planning projects providing evidence of proven leadership skills. Ability to function independently or in a team environment. Ability to operate a personal computer and advanced business software.

Marketing Functional Mastery : Demonstrates mastery of core marketing competencies, including strategy development, utilization of insights and analytics, building brand equity and developing effective marketing communications.

Command of and ability to understand and deliver: Customer Focus, Operating Capabilities , Personal Effectiveness, Strategic Capabilities, Talent Management .
