LOCATION OF POSITION

POSITION DUTIES

Employees in this classification are police officers responsible for the service of warrants on wanted offenders. The employees may also be called upon to conduct extraditions and transport parole violators arrested by allied police agencies. These duties are carried out with full police/law enforcement powers as bestowed by Maryland State Law for individuals completing training as a police officer in the State of Maryland, as provided for by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.\r

Searches for and arrests offenders with open arrest warrants.\r
Protect the Office of the Secretary Executive Staff by conducting investigations and vulnerability assessments for threats against DPSCS personnel and protects them in situations where their safety is at risk.\r
Determines when requests for search and seizure warrants are appropriate.\r
Prepares clear, complete and accurate investigative reports.\r
Transports parole violators apprehended by allied law enforcement agencies from one jurisdiction to another.\r
Responds to emergencies and renders first aid.\r
May testify in court in connection with arrests made on duty\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:�Four years of experience in a municipal, county, state or federal police agency and current police officer certification from�the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.\r
Note: Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with 30 semester credit hours in the social, behavioral or correctional sciences for the required experience.\r

Three years or more of full time warrant service employment in a municipal, county, state or federal agency.\r
Current police officer certification from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.\r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current police officer certification, as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. Re-certification criteria for formerly certified police officers are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations Employees who fail to obtain the required certification by the end of six months of continuous employment with the hiring department shall be subject to disciplinary action including demotion, suspension and dismissal. \r
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees must have completed and graduated from the entrance level police training academy. Employees must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission as set forth in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR Selection standards of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission may be obtained from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Suite 309, 6776 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.\r
2. Employees in this classification may be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis. \r

3. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, must provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. \r
\r
4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations , Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. \r
