Boston, Massachusetts, United States Jellyfish Full time

We're looking for a Data Scientist to join Jellyfish Research, working closely with a wide range of stakeholders to understand data needs across the business, and synthesize those needs to provide a variety of data products and platforms that enable data-informed decision making. Our stakeholders range from product development teams to senior leaders at Jellyfish across both R&D and GTM. The data products to be provided range from curated datasets or dashboards for data democratization to insightful analyses or explainable scoring models. The breadth and complexity of available data continues to grow as we integrate with more systems across the business (e.g. Sales, Success, Support) and build more innovative products to help our customers manage their engineering teams as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Most importantly, you'll be part of a highly talented team working in a fun, challenging, and collaborative environment, building a fast-growing business led by experienced entrepreneurs and backed by top-tier investment partners.

Let's talk about responsibilities:

  • Facilitate data-informed decision-making across the organization
  • Collaborate with product development teams to provide tools that allow them to better measure the impact of the new and innovative experiences they are building
  • Work with Customer Success to provide data and dashboards to give them insight into how each of their customers is leveraging the Jellyfish platform
  • Partner with leaders at all levels to understand important business questions and then deliver answers they can understand and use
  • Build algorithms that simplify a complex array of data into easy-to-use and understand scoring mechanisms that track the health of various systems and products.
  • Identify data and insight gaps, advocate for closing them, then execute
  • Work with data engineers on our team to design, build, and maintain research data platforms and pipelines

Let's talk about what you need to excel:

  • Desire to help people use data to answer questions and make decisions
  • Can determine what type of data product is needed in a wide range of situations, whether a full analysis, an easily accessible dashboard, or pushing data to platforms used by stakeholders
  • Comfortable and effective at working cross functionally and across levels within an organization to understand needs and deliver results
  • Able to identify trends and priorities across needs and requests, and to create broad solutions based on these insights
  • Effective and efficient communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues; enjoys working as part of a cross-functional team
  • Can independently reduce complex problems into a solvable framework
  • Can handle ambiguity and work with stakeholders to understand the essence of their questions and requests to get to a set of requirements that are tractable
  • Advanced SQL knowledge
  • Proficient with Python (or similar programming language)
  • Proven experience in data science, data analytics, or business intelligence
  • Reliable intuitions about data, and can generally address them without guidance
  • Can balance project goals, business needs, and technical solutions
  • Loves learning new things and teaching others what you know

Bonus points for experience with:

  • User interaction data and product usage analytics
  • Standard Python libraries for data science (e.g. pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow)
  • Our engineering technology stack (Python 3, Django, Postgres, Docker, AWS)

A list of job experiences and qualification requirements is great, but humility, a performance-driven attitude, and a team-player approach are most important to us. We love to have fun and win in the process. We only hire people who have a passion for building great companies in an environment where a sense of humor is a must.

Applicants must be authorized to work for Any employer in the US. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Let's talk about us

This is all about you, but you want to know a little about us. Jellyfish was started in 2017 as a team of three with one big idea: engineering is the core of modern business, so let's create and manage it that way With the help of our customers, we have built the first Engineering Management Platform, providing visibility into engineering organizations, their work, and how they operate. We enable leaders to align engineering decisions with business initiatives and deliver the right software efficiently and on time.

We believe that it takes a diverse team to build the best company we can. Jellyfish welcomes people from all backgrounds and especially encourages applications from members of groups underrepresented in the software industry.
