Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.

Initiate, develop, implement, and evaluate the security programs of an organization, including the implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs.

Lead and coordinate the implementation of security programs across platforms and establish vulnerability reporting criteria; enforce proper backup procedures for all system and network information; and enforce legal controls that provide protection from unauthorized access, alteration, loss, disclosure, and blocking of information.

Serve as principal contact for coordination, implementation, and enforcement of information security policies.
Identify the need for changes based on new security technologies or threats.
Review proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks.

Participate in Web based applications, network, and systems designs to ensure the implementation of systems security policies, guidelines and procedures, including initial design; system life cycle change review; and configuration management.

Implement higher-level security requirements.

If you are selected at the GS-11 or GS-12 levels, you will essentially perform the same duties as those at the full performance level described above, however, duties are less complex and will be performed under closer supervision with more detailed guidance.
