Director - Insurance & Product Risk Management

Position :

Director, Insurance & Product Risk Management

Department:
 Global Risk Management (GRM) oversees MetLife's financial and non-financial risks to support responsible growth and ensure we deliver on our promises to customers and stakeholders. GRM accomplishes this through proactive advice, through independent and effective challenge, and through implementation and enforcement of guardrails.

The Role :

The Director, Insurance and Product Risk Management will be focused on providing Risk oversight to Retirement & Income Solutions products.

The role will partner with key stakeholders to provide oversight over PRT, Structured Settlements, Longevity Reinsurance, COLI/BOLI, Stable Value, and other RIS products.

This role requires strong communications skills, the ability to convey information succinctly, and the ability to effectively challenge and at the same time work to build consensus.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Partner with RIS business unit and other key stakeholders on product development process and other strategic initiatives to assure key risks are appropriately understood and priced for during pricing process, and products are designed with appropriate risk mitigation and risk management controls.
  • Risk review of product and case approvals for RIS products
  • Work with Model Validation team, Insurance Risk team, and Market Risk team to assure accuracy of models, actuarial assumptions and market assumptions used in pricing process.
  • Build financial/actuarial models to assess insurance and product risks. Communicate implications of different designs and choices on risk and value to senior management.

Candidate Qualifications:
 Incumbent should have strong product, modeling, technical and general business skills with ability to manage a large number of diverse projects simultaneously.

Required:

  • 7+ years of experience within insurance company or consulting
  • Actuarial designation (ASA required, FSA or equivalent preferred)
  • Strong actuarial and communications skills are required, with the ability to present and convey information to senior level leaders effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent actuarial/financial modelling skills and analytical abilities
  • Excels at building partnerships and fostering teamwork
  • Knowledge of RIS products and understanding of ALM practices a plus
