Upper School World Languages Teacher--Spanish

Teaching Responsibilities :
At The Benjamin School, good teachers set high standards and expectations for their students and then do everything they can to help them achieve those standards. We are looking for teachers who will help our students become self-directed, independent learners with superior academic and thinking skills.
The ideal candidate will be able to incorporate multiple teaching styles and use varied approaches to the students and material. This person must desire to work with students in a challenging, college-preparatory environment and possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Qualified candidates should demonstrate a broad-based intellectual curiosity, a passion for fostering confident lifelong learners empowered with the ability to interrogate texts and to think and write critically, the ability to facilitate inclusive academic discussions and debates with diverse points of view, the ability to work within a team, the skills and desire to engage and inspire students in the pursuit of learning, an understanding of the various roles that an independent school teacher must assume, a commitment to ongoing professional development, and a sense of humor.
The person filling this position will teach multiple Spanish levels (up to Spanish 5/AP Spanish), t he specifics of which will depend on the individual talents that the candidate brings to Benjamin and World Languages staffing needs.
General Professional Qualifications:
The most desirable candidates will have the following background or comparable experience:
A bachelor's degree in World Languages or a related field in Spanish languages is required; an advanced degree is preferred, with native or native-like proficiency. Minimum three years of teaching experience in a rigorous college preparatory program at the Upper School level; experience working in independent schools is a plus. Strong educational background; current knowledge of pedagogical approaches in language and culture acquisition and teaching for proficiency. An ability and desire to be on a World Languages Department team working collaboratively to design student experience; willingness to create a student-centered classroom and contribute to the curriculum area. Experience integrating technology into the curriculum. Willingness to share a passion and love of literature and language learning with teenagers. Collegiality and collaboration with colleagues in advancing the school's strategic initiatives are essential.
