At The Benjamin School, we believe that good teachers set high standards for their students and then do everything they can to help them achieve those standards. We are looking for teachers who will help our students become self-directed, independent learners with superior academic and life skills.
The ideal candidate will be able to incorporate multiple styles of teaching and use varied approaches to the students and material. This person must have a desire to work with students in a challenging, college-preparatory environment and should possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Additionally, the candidate filling this role will have a special opportunity to invigorate, renew, and shape our choral and band programs with The Benjamin School's new Performing Arts graduate requirement.
Qualified candidates should demonstrate a passion for music education, intellectual curiosity, strong communication skills, the ability to work within a team, skills to engage and inspire students in the pursuit of learning, a commitment to ongoing professional development, an understanding of the ebbs and flows of independent school life, as well as, have a sense of humor and humility.
The person filling this position will teach a variety of music classes including chorus, band, chamber ensemble, piano and music theory. This position also includes co-curricular responsibilities such as musical director of the high school musical, drumline director, and more, depending on the candidate's talents and interests.

General Professional Qualifications:
The most desirable candidates will have the following background or comparable experience:
- A bachelor's degree in music or a related field ,with a minimum of 3-5 years teaching high school music is required; a master's degree is preferred.
- Candidates must have experience teaching vocal arts and music theory, guiding music/band/strings students, and supporting theatrical directors in musical productions at the high school or college level.
- A broad knowledge of musical techniques, history, and genres to better teach a range of students;
- Experience integrating technology into the curriculum;
- A sense of joy to share a love of music in any form with Upper School students;
- Collegiality and a desire to collaborate with peers in advancing the school's strategic initiatives is essential;
- An interest and experience in interacting with students outside the classroom in co-curricular activities: sports, arts, social service, etc.
