George School, an all-gender, Quaker boarding/day school located in Newtown, Bucks County, PA, seeks an Interim Teacher of Woodworking & Design for the school year, beginning in August 2024.

Candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in fine arts and have demonstrated the ability to teach representational, as well as conceptual, approaches to woodworking. The school and this program embrace a responsibility for environmental sustainability, using locally sourced wood such as walnut, cherry, ash, white and red oak, maple, poplar, and beech.

The school particularly seeks candidates who are: practicing artists; who are capable of developing and teaching a three-to-four-year sequence of woodworking that complements other visual arts offerings in the Arts Department; and, who demonstrate an interest in other aspects of boarding school life, such as coaching a sport or helping supervise a dormitory. Candidates must also be able to manage and budget for a studio and its supplies and equipment, to assist students with portfolio preparation, to oversee student co-op workers, and to support and showcase the arts on campus. Since many students participate in on-campus art shows and various regional exhibitions and competitions, the teacher will also coordinate and facilitate this effort with other visual arts faculty.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the energy to thrive within a fast-paced work environment and they must possess a genuine appreciation for adolescents, a sense of humor, the ability to work collaboratively with members of the Arts department and serve as a positive team player within the George School community.
