Oakton College is a community of dedicated educators focused on delivering excellence in teaching and learning. Currently, we are looking to fill a tenure track faculty position in the CAD/MFG Department with Automation/Mechatronics concentration starting in Fall 2024. This role will also involve handling administrative responsibilities within the department.
Established in 1969, Oakton is a comprehensive two-year community college that offers associate's degree programs and non-credit courses in northern Cook County, Illinois. The main 147-acre campus is located in Des Plaines, Illinois, within a forest preserve. Additionally, there is a second campus in Skokie that caters to residents on the eastern side of the District and houses the Art, Science, and Technology Pavilion. Oakton also provides continuing education classes at off-campus locations across the region, along with a distance learning program for students.
Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association, Oakton is acknowledged by the Illinois Community College Board and is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges, among other professional organizations.
At Oakton, our 700 full- and part-time faculty members are genuinely passionate about teaching. They engage with students on an individual level in small class sizes, guiding them through their learning journey.

We are seeking applicants who are effective communicators and skilled classroom facilitators, with a preference for those who thrive in a student-centered teaching environment.

We are looking for enthusiastic faculty members who are committed to innovative teaching methods at the college level and interested in non-traditional approaches to instruction. Computer skills are essential for this role.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Develop a course syllabus that outlines course objectives, content, and grading criteria,
- Prepare course materials for lectures, labs, and clinical functions,
- Deliver instruction effectively, ensuring preparedness for scheduled classes,
- Engage in student consultation and evaluation,
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and other related metrics,
- Adhere to departmental and institutional policies including grading, office hours, and instructional decisions,
- Participate in assessments of student learning and institutional surveys,
- Take part in departmental and college-wide activities and committees,
- Adhere to institutional procedures,
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related engineering or technology field, along with a minimum of 2000 hours (1 year) of field work experience.
- Additional relevant experience in Automation/Mechatronics,
- Previous teaching/training experience in Manufacturing,
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Certifications in Industrial Automation and Mechatronics.

The workload for full-time faculty members over the nine-month academic year is 30 lecture hour equivalents. On average, the teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents during the Fall and Spring semesters combined.
Faculty members are expected to maintain a minimum of 10 regular office hours per week in both Fall and Spring semesters. Participation in professional development activities, institutional, and departmental services is also a requirement for full-time faculty.
Compensation:
The starting salary range for full-time faculty, based on a 9-month contract, is from $52,827 to $68,912. Additional compensation is provided for teaching overloads and summer assignments, with potential salary adjustments based on Faculty Negotiations.

Appointment to a faculty position is subject to approval by the College's Board of Trustees, with the anticipated start date for this position being Fall 2024.
