Summary


The Philosophy Department is looking to hire up to one (1) Lecturer in the Fall 2024 term to lead four (4) discussion sections for faculty-led lectures in (Changing the World ) .

This class will focus on global health and poverty, animal welfare, environmental preservation, and the long-term survival of human civilization.

The goal is to provide students with the conceptual resources to evaluate which global causes matter most, and how they can most effectively make a difference.

Responsibilities*

  • Attend all lectures and exams for the course. (Exam times TBD)
o Lectures are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30am -1pm.

Section times are listed below. Note that both lecture and discussions sections are scheduled as in-person instruction.

o Wednesdays 3-4pm

o Thursdays 10-11am; 11am-Noon

o Fridays 11am-Noon

  • Hold at least 2 office hours each week.
  • Grade assignments, per lead faculty instruction.
  • Meet weekly with the lead instructor, and respond promptly to emails.
Required Qualifications*


Qualified candidates will have an advanced degree in Philosophy, Economics or a related field, and a demonstrated range of expertise teaching philosophy or closely related subjects at the college/university level.

Applicants will be selected based upon demonstrated subject matter expertise, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and departmental needs.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
