Job Summary


The neurology inpatient APP functions within the acute and critical care hospital setting and works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team.

The APP functions in the inpatient setting managing the care of acute and chronically ill patients related to neurological diagnoses.

The APP is generally on a service-aligned team and manages the day-to-day patient care from consult to discharge.

The APP has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education and has a responsibility to ensure an environment of safe quality care.

The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Assessment of health status, diagnosis, formulation and continuation of plan of care, patient education. Advanced Practice Clinical Assessment Skills, Detail Orientation, Customer Service/Interpersonal Skills.

Demonstrates Professional Practice behaviors including preceptor/mentoring, education, and instruction of students, nursing staff, nurses, clinic staff, and graduate and novice APPs.

Seeks opportunities for active engagement in research and the analysis of evidence-based practice. Actively participates in Grand Rounds, council meetings, faculty and unit meetings as appropriate, and other service-based activities. Maintains CEUs and membership in a professional organization. Maintains annual safety education requirements. Maintain licensure and keep up to date on all accreditation requirements. Maintains a positive, professional demeanor with patients, co-workers, and the public. Acts as a liaison with other departments and to the community. Ensures a neat, clean environment. Facilitates and participates in problem solving process to resolve issues regarding patients, families, physicians, other departments, and staff. Functions effectively as a team player at all times. Effective communication skills, and motivation. Technical and professional knowledge, dependability, and communication.
