Job Description Summary

SUMMARY AND PURPOSE OF POSITION

Psychometrists are responsible for the administration and scoring of neuropsychological and psychological tests under the direct supervision of a clinical neuropsychologist. Neuropsychological testing primarily involves the administration and scoring of paper-and-pencil cognitive tests (eg, tests of memory, attention, language, problem solving) and mental health questionnaires. Additionally, the psychometrist will also make note of behavioral observations during the assessment that may be used by the neuropsychologist to aid in test interpretation. The psychometrist may also be responsible for collecting demographic information from a patient as well as other tasks, as assigned.

Our patient population consists of adults of all ages with neurological, medical, and psychiatric conditions. The most common referral diagnoses include neurodegenerative disorders (eg, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias), movement disorders (eg, Parkinson's disease), epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke, and multiple sclerosis. Patients often commonly have comorbid psychiatric disorders (eg, depression, anxiety).

The ideal candidate for this position will be detail-oriented, conscientious, efficient, flexible, and will enjoy working within a collaborative team. The ideal candidate will also be able to quickly learn and become independent on administration and scoring procedures for neuropsychological testing, and will be committed to providing a high standard of patient care.

Previous clinical experience is strongly preferred but not required.

Previous relevant experience, course work, or clinical training is strongly preferred.

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. 65%: Administers and scores neuropsychological and psychological tests.
  2. 10%: Scores tests administered by neuropsychologist/psychologist.
  3. 10%: Provides written documentation of the patient's behavior during testing.
  4. 5%: Participates in establishing job requirements and goals and performs duties at the desired level of competency.
  5. 5%: Reviews and ensures timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of patient information, test scores, and testing materials.
  6. 5%: Complies with Infection Control and Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Education, Credentials, Licenses: Bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field (eg, social sciences) from an accredited college or university; prefer candidates with significant coursework and/or supplemental professional experience in psychology (eg, 12 semester hours in psychology).

College level math/statistical skills required

Must be able to work effectively with a variety of people and must have demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment. Self-directed learning; organizational skills; efficient with typing and writing; teaching skills; clinical skills (assets); must be able to communicate quickly and articulately in writing and verbally at levels that are appropriate for patient interactions, staff interactions, and with neuropsychologists.

English language proficiency required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Credentials, Licenses: Master's degree in Psychology or related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of cognitive assessment/technical psychometric work (ie, clinical services, training, and/or research) under the supervision of a psychologist/neuropsychologist or one full year of graduate study in psychology (or related area of study) in an accredited college or university with exposure to cognitive assessment and/or coursework.

Specialized Knowledge: Practical understanding of the general principles, theories, methods and techniques of psychological/neuropsychological testing.

Experience using PowerPoint and data management programs is preferred.

Bi/multi-lingualism welcomed.
