About Glenelg Country School

Glenelg Country School is a non-sectarian, co-educational, college preparatory school serving students from age 2 through grade 12 on 90-acre campus just minutes from Columbia, MD, with approximately 800 students.

The school welcomes candidates with a sense of teamwork who want to work in a school community. Glenelg Country School (GCS) requires a strong commitment toward working closely with students and colleagues in and out of the classroom. At GCS, successful candidates participate in the school's overall life by contributing to service learning, clubs, enrichment classes, field trips, and faculty committees. In keeping with its mission, Glenelg Country strives to attract faculty and staff who embrace diversity of background, culture, and thought. GCS draws students primarily from Howard County and six surrounding counties with more than half of students identifying as ethno-racially diverse.

Overview of Essential Functions

  • Teaching history in a multidisciplinary course introducing conflicts and exchanges between Western Europe and the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with an emphasis on early modern and modern eras.

    • Adopting non-Western texts, art, and perspectives to move the course beyond the horizons of a traditional Euro-centric curriculum.

    • Collaborating effectively in a team of three to craft and refine a consistent experience for all tenth-grade students in both Honors and On-Level groups. Key Skills and Attributes:?

    The successful candidate will bring to GCS a love of working with adolescents and the ability to differentiate instruction among a wide range of learners with appropriate educational technologies. GCS is a thriving community built on the holistic development of its students. All full-time Upper School teachers contribute to clubs and enrichment activities and advise a group of ten or eleven students for their entire Upper School career.
