Assistant Dining Room Manager

This is a full-time positions that run from late April through late October. 40+ hours per week with regular overtime available.

Island House Hotel is a member of the Historic Hotels of America and is a one-of-a-kind property located on Mackinac Island. We are family-owned and operated.

We have five one-off restaurants on Mackinac in our group, from family dining to casual fine dining. Each one presents a broad range of opportunities.

About Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island is a unique place located between Michigan's rugged upper and lower peninsulas where Lake Huron and Lake Michigan meet. There are no motor vehicles on the Island, which is accessible only by ferry, plane, and private watercraft.

No motor vehicles mean no rush hour, no commute, and little pollution. Leave a big portion of your carbon footprint on the mainland. Walk or ride your bike to get around. When you are not trapped in a car you have a chance to see the water and see the trees. Things slow down, you suddenly have a chance to say hello to people. Mackinac Island has a sense of community as a direct result of this freedom.

You can be in the woods on a secluded trail in less than ten minutes after work. You can have a rock beach all to yourself if you head a mile out of town on a bike. Mackinac Island is 80% state park and it is here for all of us to share.

Assistant Dining Room Manager

Aids in management of dining room service in the manner most pleasing to guests. Assure a high standard of appearance, hospitality and service in personnel and cleanliness of dining room. Supervise and train dining room staff. Manage with budgetary restraints. Develop and implement programs to increase revenues (repeat business and higher check averages).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities -

Assists with dining room setup based upon anticipated guest counts and client needs

Takes reservations, checks table reservation schedules and maintains reservations log. Greets and seats guests

Aids dining room staff to help assure proper service; pours coffee and takes orders when necessary

Inspects dining room employees to ensure that they are in proper and clean uniforms at all times

Helps to Train, supervise, schedule and evaluate dining room staff

Provides appropriate reports concerning employee hours, schedules, job changes and tip pools

Receives and resolves complaints concerning food, beverages and service Serves as liaison between the dining room and kitchen staff

Assures that all side work is accomplished and that all cleaning of equipment and storage areas is completed according to schedule

Takes part in pre-meal meetings with dining room personnel; relays information and policy changes and briefs personnel

Assures the correct appearance, cleanliness and safety of dining room areas, equipment and fixtures; checks the maintenance o all equipment in the dining room and reports deficiencies and maintenance concerns

Makes suggestions about improvements in dining room service procedures and layout

Produces daily or meal-period revenue analyses and other reports from point of sale systems used in the dining room

Assures that the dining room and other hotel areas are secure at the end of the business day

Maintains an inventory of dining room items including silverware, coffee pots, water pitchers, salt and pepper holders, sugar bowls and linen and ensures that they are properly stored and accounted for

Works with the dining room reservation system

Monitors dining room labor and supplies Assists in service as needed

Attends scheduled staff meetings

Confirms that all dining room closing procedures have been completed and assures that area is secure

Designs floor plans in accordance with reservations

Assures that local and state laws and policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed

Performs other appropriate assignments and project as required by the GM or Food and Beverage Director.
